ABOUT US
shadsmitty is an independent news journal covering current affairs, regions, communities, politics and global change. We explain what happened, why it matters and who it affects.
Who we are
shadsmitty is a small editorial team of reporters, researchers and editors who work across five desks. We started in 2026 with a simple idea: most people do not need more news, they need better context. Our job is to read the documents, follow the money and talk to the people living with the consequences, then write it plainly.
Our mission
Help readers understand the forces shaping their lives without adding to the noise. That means covering prices, housing, local government, water, trade and the small experiments that make communities work. It also means saying when something is unresolved or when the evidence is thin.
Editorial standards
We name sources where it is safe to do so, publish dates and figures, and separate reporting from opinion. We take no sponsored placements and no paid coverage. Corrections are published in public within 48 hours, with a note explaining what changed. If a claim cannot be verified, we do not publish it as fact.
Our desks
Current Affairs tracks the week's biggest forces. Regional Reports covers towns and cities solving practical problems. Community Updates follows the people building better blocks. Political Insights examines power, policy and voters. Global Perspectives traces trade, cities and diplomacy through concrete places.
How to support us
Read the stories, share the ones that help, and subscribe to the weekly briefing. Reader attention is the entire business model. We accept no sponsored rankings, no paid placements and no editorial conditions attached to access. If a source offers a trip or a gift, we decline it or disclose it in the story.
